Conventional Car & Passenger Ferries

Fjellstrand launched in 2003 the design for a lightweight aluminium catamaran Car & Passenger Ferry, with the purpose to obtain a high transit speed (22 knots) at a low fuel consumption

”Stavanger” was the first Car & Passenger Ferry designed and built by Fjellstrand

Being way more energy efficient compared to mono hull vessels (30% lower fuel consumption), with less bunkers (weight) needed onboard, and with aluminium as construction material for low weight (40% lower weight than a traditional steel monohull) and full recycling capability, this design was the start for Fjellstrand’ further environmental life cycle focus and development of low and zero emission vessels
