Battery Powered Fast Ferries

For further development of the Fjellstrand Fast Ferry concept, Fjellstrand participated in the EU Horizon 2020 “TrAM” project, focusing on zero-emission technology, efficient design and manufacturing methods

“Medstraum”, the world’s first fully battery electric and zero-emission Fast Ferry classed fulfilling the International Code of Safety for High-Speed Crafts (HSC Code), will operate the route between the city of Stavanger to the surrounding communities and islands

The vessel is built in Aluminium for low weight (and full recycling capability at end of service), to obtain a service speed of 23 knots using electricity from the grid as the only energy source
